Who We Are

We are a team of dreamers committed to equal opportunities in access to medical technology. Medical Open World is a non-profit organization that develops accessible technological solutions for the healthcare sector—especially for countries and regions that lack such resources. We believe in the power of collaboration and open source innovation to save lives.

Our team includes engineers, doctors, volunteers, educators, and professionals from diverse fields, all united by a shared mission: bringing accessible medical technology where it’s needed most. Led by Pablo Sánchez Bergasa, recipient of the Princess of Girona Foundation Social Award 2025, we work with a collaborative, professional, and deeply human approach.

We are also supported by hundreds of students who build our incubators at Salesianos educational centers, combining technical learning with global solidarity.

Mission, Vision & Values

Mission:

To develop and distribute accessible, high-quality medical technology to reduce neonatal mortality in low-resource countries.

Vision:

A world where every premature baby has access to an incubator—no matter where they are born.

Values:

Human Dignity: Every life matters.

Open Innovation: We share our knowledge to multiply impact.

Global Solidarity: We build connections across people, countries, and knowledge.

Transparency & Commitment: We work with responsibility, openness, and technical rigor.

Our Story

Medical Open World was born in response to an urgent need: to prevent the deaths of 1.5 million babies each year from preventable causes.

In 2014, Alejandro Escario, then an engineering student in Madrid, designed an accessible neonatal incubator as his final degree project. His invention—created specifically for low-resource countries—later received international recognition, including an award from MIT. He released the design as open-source technology, so it could be freely replicated and adapted worldwide.

In 2017, Pablo Sánchez Bergasa joined the project, bringing a renewed vision and strong social commitment. In 2019, Pablo founded the organization Medicina Abierta al Mundo (now Medical Open World) to scale up the production and distribution of the IncuNest incubator (formerly known as In3ator).
Since then, and thanks to partnerships with Salesianos, Ayuda Contenedores, and over 60 NGOs, we have delivered more than 200 incubators to 30 countries in just five years.

Today, we are a growing organization with a dedicated professional team and a clear vision: No premature baby should die for lack of an incubator. We embrace the challenge of expanding the reach of our accessible incubators and multiplying their impact—to help end a preventable tragedy.
